With the 2016 Olympic Games and A Level Results Day hype that has been going on over the past few weeks, Paston Sixth Form College is now used to daily celebrations. Another British, or in this case ‘Paston’ Gold Medal has been awarded to our Information Services Manager, Caz Peek for completing the Burnham Beeches Half Marathon in Buckinghamshire on Sunday 14th August in a time of 3 hours 26 minutes and 37 seconds.
Caz stated that ’21 weeks ago my daughter decided she wanted to run a half marathon, which is 21K/13.1 miles, to celebrate her 21st birthday. I found a half marathon taking place on her actual 21st birthday so, of course, I had to run it with her so we both started 20 weeks of training’.
Both Caz and her daughter, Abbie had run a 5K park run before, but that was all and with the help of their trainer Neil Featherby, they came up with a training plan for Wednesdays, Fridays and a long run on Sunday to increase their mileage and stamina.
Abbie suffers from anxiety but found that running has helped, so between them they decided to raise a sponsorship for Mental Health Awareness and Mind. Caz has said that ‘We originally hoped we would be able to raise £400 sponsorship but so far we have raised £606.78’.
We, as a college, are extremely proud of Caz and her daughter for completing such an inspirational challenge and below is the link to their sponsor page where anyone can donate to the good cause of the Mental Health Awareness and Mind organisations.
