Spellbound Trip to Harry Potter World Paston’s A level Media and BTEC Creative Media students returned spellbound from their recent trip to the Harry Potter studios in Watford. Butter beer was drunk, Bertie Bott’s every flavoured beans were devoured and Buckbeak the magical hippogriff bowed and bewildered us with mind blowing animatronics. The trip helped the students to see the vast amount of creativity and planning that goes into making a big blockbuster film and the studios offered an amazing insight into how the film industry works. Not only were we able to see many of the sets, props, costumes and characters that appeared in the Harry Potter films but also view presentations and listen to members of the crew, who were on hand to explain the intricacies, complexities and problems that occurred when trying to create a magical world in these films. Many students came back with a deeper understanding of how films are made to create a seamless experience for the audiences who watch them, they are excited to try out some new techniques on the next practical projects they undertake.
