
Painting you will take part in a variety of workshops in year one, introducing you to drawing, mark making, painting and mixed media, using a wide range of wet and dry materials.
Sculpture you will use a wide range of materials and techniques to build 3D objects and learn about the work of others.
Printmaking including etching, monoprint, screen print and collagraph, taught by professional printmakers.
Graphic design you will have real briefs and use hand drawn and digital methods to produce your own solutions. Last year students designed the Art Show poster as well as publicity for their own show and for a college charity event.
Life drawing.
Drawing workshops to explore the importance of mark making, line selection and tone.
Visits to galleries and artists studios to help enrich your research. Recent trips for BTEC Art students have included Barcelona, Paris, London and Norwich.
Exhibit your work publicly including as part of the annual Paston Art Show.
3D including carving, casting and construction.
Graphics including digital workshops using Photoshop© and Illustrator© to set briefs.
Community Art projects. Previous projects have included a mosaic mural for the Victory Swimming Pool, North Walshams Hippo Trail and the Esuubi Craft Fair.
Your course tutors will assess you through a range of written and practical projects as well as oral presentations. There are no written examinations on this course.
Most students from the course go on to university to study some aspect of Art such as Illustration, Textiles, Photography, Graphic Design and Fine Art. Paston has a Progression Accord with the Norwich University College of the Arts which gives Paston students the option to study locally for a wide range of degree courses after completing their BTEC.
A minimum of four GCSE grades A*- C, including Art and one from English/English Language, Mathematics, and Science.
As above but if you are not studying Art at GCSE we ask you to bring to interview a sketchbook of drawings demonstrating your interest in art and a 200 word review of the work of either Anselm Kiefer or Tracey Emin.
A merit or distinction in a full Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Art or a related subject with a grade C or above in GCSE English/English Language.
