Far East Theatre
Far East is Paston College’s student theatre company. “Far East Theatre was founded by Andrew Hirschhorn and, former Vice Principal and playwright, Rob John in 1987 when they wanted to take Paston’s first shows to the Edinburgh Festival. As our shows would be fighting for audiences against professional companies, we wanted to at least sound like one ourselves.
The forming of a theatre company had a major impact on the students. The commitment behind the company was that it would aspire to reach professional standards, promote student drama and the College, and tour both locally and nationally.
In its 23 year history Far East (named because that’s where Paston is) has taken five shows to Edinburgh, performed in London, Leeds, Cambridge, Sheffield and toured many productions throughout Norfolk and East Anglia. Our productions in 2010 bring the total created by the company to around 50. These include Macbeth, Measure For Measure, The Taming of The Shrew, Animal Farm, Waiting for Godot, Jungle Book, Dancing at Lughnasa, and Living With Lady Macbeth. Far East welcomes all students at the College interested in performing or working backstage, whether or not they are studying for formal qualifications in expressive arts courses/programmes. Far East is part of Paston College’s Enrichment Programme and its home the Paston Theatre.
