The course is taught in completely refurbished studios, with access to great resources and display opportunities. Over the 2 year course you will study 13 units which is the equivalent to 3 A Levels. 9 units are set and marked internally, 4 are set and marked by Pearson.

What will I study on the course?

You will have 10 lessons per week in which you will have a variety of workshops in photography, graphic communication, painting, drawing, textiles and sculpture. You will learn a research technique that will help you develop your writing skills and ability to analyse art.

We offer our students fantastic opportunities to visit galleries in Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Birmingham and Norwich. Trips planned for 2016 -17 include Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The Hepworth Wakefield, London and Amsterdam.

This course is an exciting opportunity for students to commit themselves to art and design. A number of our students have gone from this course to establish a career for themselves in the creative industries. Ex- students are currently working as architects, photographers, shoe designers, illustrators and graphic designers. If that is what you would like to do then come and join us.

What sort of things will I do on the course?

  • Drawing workshops to explore the importance of mark making, line selection and tone.
  • Visits to galleries and artists’ studios to help enrich your research. Recent trips for BTEC Art students have included Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Birmingham NEC and Norwich.
  • Exhibit your work publicly.
  • Graphics including digital workshops using Photoshop© and Illustrator© to set briefs.
  • Exhibit your work at the Paston Art Show.
