Whether you're watching the latest blockbuster film, downloading a favourite track from iTunes, or talking to friends via social networks, you are immersed in the world of the Media.

A level Media Studies dissects the role of the media within society and is a combination of both coursework and examinations throughout the two year course. For the coursework section you will look at the moving image and learn how to construct your own films, paying particular attention to the technical elements that help create a successful product, while unlocking your potential to become skilled in filming and video editing. Media Studies not only challenges you practically, but theoretically. During the course, you will learn about those who make, advertise and sell products, and how producers interact with those who buy and consume them, as well as studying filmmakers and theorists from around the world. Additionally, you will also learn how to research and critically engage into many media topics, such as the representation and stereotyping of people within media texts, the complexities of media regulation and how the media impacts upon our society and our cultural identities.

Our annual Paston Film Night, held in July, showcases student work on the big screen and is a firm fixture in the college calendar. Here is the official trailer:

Students take Media Studies alongside science, humanities and art subjects. Many media students go on to university to study Media or Film Production, Broadcast Journalism, Advertising, Marketing or Journalism and later go on to work in the media. Past students are now working for BBC television and radio, Radio Norwich, Disney, North Norfolk Radio, Norwich City Football Club, Heart Radio, Anglia TV, Island Records and Tiger Aspect. We have past students working currently in Hollywood, British cinema and Asian cinema. Studying this topic really can be the beginnings to help you to work in the creative sector, all around the world.
