Paston’s Political Film and Debating Society is a popular society which appeals to anyone interested in debating current controversial issues.  Whether you prefer taking part in high quality topical debates, enjoy watching films and documentaries or want to come along to listen to speakers, our programme is ideal if you like practising your debating skills!

It doesn’t matter what academic subjects you study. You’ll find that our membership is very diverse in background and opinions but we all have a shared commitment to discussing and debating ideas and are willing to try and accommodate anyone who wants to get involved. Our sessions involve watching a range of thought provoking films with a political theme, such as Michael Moore’s Capitalism: A Love Story, and The Wave, which we follow with an informal discussion. In addition we have organised trips to sixth form debates, including seeing Bruce Kent, and we’ve attended politics lectures at U.E.A. by Anthony Giddens, Charles Clarke and Shirley Williams. Not to mention the infamous Paston Question Time in the Spring Term.

Joining will help you to improve your public speaking and confidence and help you learn to express yourself in a way which persuades and influences others.

Above all - It’s fun!
