At Paston we believe in creating an inspirational environment for learning. Our reputation, backed by Ofsted, for expert teaching, guidance and support, good learning facilities, specialist support for Oxbridge and university entry, as well as outstanding academic results, ensures our students are well prepared for a positive future.

Paston is a Sixth Form College. It’s not a school sixth form, or free school and it’s not an FE College. We specialise in the education of 16 – 19 year old students, with a long tradition of outstanding results, and with a high proportion of students progressing to the best University courses or high quality employment opportunities. Sixth Form Colleges can provide the best sixth form education: academically, they perform better than school sixth forms, free school sixth forms or FE Colleges. Based on results, Paston is one of the top performing Sixth Form Colleges nationally.

Paston Ethos: Excellence in Teaching and Learning

Our students do consistently well on their A Level and BTEC programmes. This is a result of specialist teachers who are passionate about their subjects and who work hard to motivate and inspire students.

In 2017 our students achieved an A level pass rate of 99.3% with 53% A*-B and 80.0%% A*-C . Our BTEC students achieved a pass rate of 100%, with 63% achieving high grades

Ofsted said of Paston: “All learners are well behaved, motivated and have a positive attitude to learning… (They) make very good progress in their lessons; as a result a high proportion of learners achieve their qualifications and their target grades. The proportion…who are successful in moving on to higher education or employment is high&rdquo

At 700 students we’re big enough to offer a great choice of subjects, yet small enough to look after the individual student – not only academically, but also in terms of personal support. We write the timetable around your subject choices, so this means that you are free to pick the best options to meet your future University or employment needs.

Ofsted said: “The range of programmes offered is broad and meets learners’ aspirations particularly well. Almost all learners have a positive destination on leaving the college. A high proportion secure places in higher education, including at Russell Group universities, or gain employment when this is their intention.”

An Inspirational place to learn:

Paston has some excellent facilities, including a mix of historic and new buildings. This makes it a unique and interesting place to learn, both in the classroom and outside of lessons. Paston develops your ability to learn independently using our study areas which are designed to support everyone’s needs. We have invested in on-line resources which allow flexible learning in and out of College.

There’s a great atmosphere at Paston, and one of the things that helps you meet new people is ‘Clubs and Societies’, which takes part on Wednesday afternoons. You will be able to follow your existing interests, and maybe develop new ones. There are also many curriculum trips and visits. Last year students travelled across Eastern and Southern Europe, to New York and to South Africa; they also went skiing in Italy.

Ofsted said: “Learners demonstrate a high level of mutual respect for each other and their teachers. They feel safe in the college and their behaviour is exemplary. Almost all learners improve their self-confidence and raise their expectations in their personal lives and future aspirations”.
