Fashion Design BA High 2:1 for a first year grade.

How did that course help you progress upon your career path?
Studying the BTEC at Paston set me up perfectly to start my course in Nottingham. The way I was taught is very similar in the way that you are pushed with gaining your own independence and working confidently. Paston was where I gained all my motivation and determination, which helped me secure my place to study in New York.

Who do you work for, and what projects have you been involved in?
During my time in New York, I was able to work during New York Fashion Week, and New York Bridal Week. Having previously working Graduate Fashion Week in London and my university fashion show, I had an idea of how intense the environment would be. I worked backstage helping the models dress and meeting the designers, as well as preparing the stage and seating before the shows. This was an incredible insight into the industries fast-moving and competitive nature, and exactly what I want to do more of.

What are the important skills you have had to developed and tell us more about the fantastic successes you have had in New York.
Communication and attention to detail are main skills required day-to-day for me. Although attention to detail plays a crucial part in fashion, speed is also essential; I find that meeting deadlines to a high standard is always important.
Throughout my time in New York I studied 7 courses, which included Photographic Styling, Digital Flats and Specs, Menswear Sewing, Body Contour and Haute Couture. I wanted to learn a number of different skills so chose courses in different areas of fashion to gain a wider knowledge. I’m extremely happy to have done well in all my courses being able to get grade As throughout and learnt loads of new skills I wouldn’t usually have done otherwise.

Did you ever envisage doing this while you were at Paston?
My dream was always to be able to go to New York. I would never have thought I would be able to live there and study the subject I love the most, as well as have the chance to work at New York Fashion Week. Paston has played a huge part in contributing to the success of my journey; I gained the confidence from my teachers that I needed to push me in my education, which enabled me to develop the skills and knowledge going further within the industry.
