Where did you go to University and what mark did you leave with?
I attended Aston University from 2010 – 2014. I have just graduated with a First Class (Hons) in BSc Marketing with Integrated Industrial/Professional Training

Who do you work for, and what projects have you been involved in?
The Walt Disney Company within Media Distribution. As I am fairly new to my role I am still in the process of learning and settling into my position however I spent my placement year in the Studios team where I was fortunate enough to be closely involved in the marketing campaigns for major film releases as well as working at BFI Film Festival, a world premiere, exclusive screenings and Press Junkets and organising outdoor screenings at festivals.

What is a ‘typical day at work like?

I work with a number of business areas and clients to help deliver Films and TV Series via a variety of service providers and through a number of media platforms. No day is the same as the progression of negotiations and the timeline of the upcoming title slate moulds the business activity and needs.

What did you study at Paston? How did that course help you progress upon your career path?
From studying Business Studies I knew I wanted to progress my career within Marketing, Julie recommended to do a degree with an integrated placement year which sculpted my university decision. My integrated placement year was spent as a Marketing Assistant for UK and EMEA for Walt Disney Studios.

What are the important skills you have had to develop and hone to be successful in your job?
Communication is probably the utmost important skill as I liaise with top level management and co-workers across the globe so it is crucial to be concise, courteous and clear. Furthermore general skills such as attention to detail and prioritisation have proven to be key when managing day to day tasks to a high standard.

Did you ever envisage doing this while you were at Paston?
To a certain extent; I have always been passionate about progressing in Marketing but it was not until University where I gained an in-depth knowledge that I began to pinpoint where I wanted to take my career more specifically. Paston was a solid stepping stone for contributing to the success of my journey so far, I gained skills and knowledge at this stage which enabled me to develop these academically and practically later on. My placement year experience was the reason I chose to continue my career within the entertainment sector.

What did you do in the year immediately after graduating?
Having finished my university final exams in May 2014, I started back at The Walt Disney Company at the beginning of June having been offered a job within the Sales team in Media Distribution. My first 2 months have proved to be an incredibly insightful and valuable experience. Being part of the Sales Team has presented me with the opportunity to expand my skill and knowledge set but also Media Networks is a vastly complex line of business which within the rise of Digital creates new ventures and changes the face of business.
