Where did you go to University and what mark did you leave with?
I went to University of Leeds, but left 3 months in as the course was not suited to me.
Who do you work for, and what projects have you been involved in?
I work for myself from my studio at home running my own company, selling and supplying artwork directly to customers and to local galleries. Some of the projects I have been involved in include Norwich’s GOGO Gorillas 2013, Colchester’s Stand Tall Giraffes 2013 & GOGO Dragons 2015.

What is a ‘typical day at work like?
I get up, check and send emails regarding print orders from customers. I then spend the rest of the day painting new pictures for local art galleries, and getting work ready for exhibitions.

What skills did you take from the subjects you studied at Paston and how have you developed them in your job?
Studying Art & Design at Paston made me realise my passion and skill for creating artwork. The skills I have developed are learning to discipline myself to keep working and getting more and more exposure as an artist. I believe to be a success you have to accept that you will fail, but do not beat yourself up about it. Successful people fail much more often than they have succeeded. Always do your best, and strive to do better next time, be commercially aware and pin-point how your strengths can get you where you want to be.

Did you ever envisage doing this while you were at Paston?
I always thought I would be a graphic designer because I felt that this job was more of a realistic career path to follow. However, when I left university I realised that I could work for myself and have a career which did not require a university degree. Working for myself and having my own company is really satisfying but it takes lots of hard work and dedication.
