William Jarvis

What is your job title?
I specialise in Colour Grading but also work in Lighting and as a Director of Photography (D.O.P).

Where did you go to high school
I went to Cromer Academy and studied Music, Graphics, ICT, English, Maths, Science and Philosophy.

What did you study at Paston and what were your results?
Creative Media BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma: DMM (ABB)

Where and what are you currently studying at university?
I am studying at Hertfordshire University in Film and TV production which I started in September 2015.

What did you do after you finished college?
Around 2-3 months after I left Paston College, Tom Westwood (who was my tutor for Creative Media) asked me if I would help out on a shoot. More of these shoots started occurring and I became involved with the production company and found myself operating camera and Colour Grading on many of the shoots. A year after and I am now working for Number13Films and regularly operate as a DOP and Colourist for a number of shoots. For the past year we have also been producing an online series called The Astronomy Show which features BBC presenter Mark Thompson.

I also studied Classical Piano in my free time, in which I am hoping achieve grade 8 in the next coming months.

How did the course you studied at Paston help you progress upon your career path?
I studied Creative Media Production (BTEC) which allowed me to explore a range of areas in the creative industry such as music video production, storyboards, radio drama production and TV shows. The course went into great depth and the tutors were extremely helpful in explaining things and answering questions. I am currently studying a BA Hons course at university and the amount of knowledge I gained at Paston has helped me enormously.

Did you ever envisage doing this while you were at Paston?
I didn’t at all, no. I took a gap year because I didn’t even know I was going to attend university!
