Health & Social Care, Foundation Diploma Level 3

This course offers a comprehensive understanding to the Health & Social Care Sector, giving you the underpinning knowledge and skills to progress within this industry. In the first year you will study towards a BTEC level 3 Diploma, broadly the equivalent to 1.5 A Levels. If you Successfully complete this year you may be able to progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Health and Social Care. The Extended Diploma deepens the specialist work-related focus and is broadly the equivalent of 3 A Levels
Work experience is included as part of the course to give you a range of valuable practical experiences. It will also help build your confidence, knowledge and enhance your practical social care skills.
The course is made up of a variety of units which may include:
* Human Lifespan Development
* Working in Health and Social Care
* Anatomy and Physiology
* Current research in Health and Social Care
* Promoting Public Health
* Work Experience
* Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs
* Physiological Disorders and their care
* Sociological perspectives
* Psychological perspectives
5 GCSE's at grade C/4 including English & Maths or a BTEC Level 2 Health and Social Care passed at Merit level. A successful completion of Disclosure Baring Service (DBS) check.
Good English and Maths skills are essential for many jobs and courses you will progress on to. The Government has made it a priority for students to develop these skills and your course programme will reflect this key aim.
If you are interested in a career in nursing, social work, care or other health related professions this vocational qualification is an excellent choice. It also satisfies university entry requirements if you want to go on to further study at degree level.
Assessment is through a range of 8 units of coursework and 4 external examinations over two years. Forms of assessment include:
* Written reports
* Practical projects
* Oral presentations
* Reflective journal from your work placement
To progress on to the second year of study you must achieve a Merit grade plus exceptional attendance and disciplinary record. Further academic options could include study at degree or foundation degree level at University or College.
You can progress to a career in nursing, social work, care or other allied health related professions.
