You will be taught in the College’s superbly equipped, purpose-built 150 seat Griffon Theatre by drama specialists who have worked, or are currently working, in the industry.

This course is vocational which means students will undertake the role of a performer throughout the year. Study is primarily practical and linked to the theoretical aspects of the specific discipline. The course includes modules in industry related business and staging public performances. Students will participate in public performances with the oppotunity to also be involved in our Far East Theatre Company, which has been running for 35 years and has staged almost one hundred productions.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs grades 9- 3, including English and Maths. Relevant Level 1 Diploma at minimum Merit. Students will audition and be interviewed prior to selection.

Learning Outcomes

Students work towards the University of the Arts London (UAL) Level 2 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts. This qualification is an outstanding foundation for higher level study within the department.

They provide an opportunity for those who have an interest in the performing arts to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating, demanding and provides a supportive transition from general to more specialised study.

Key tasks during the course include:
Learning lines and rehearsing.
Researching or undertaking activities to help prepare for a part.
Discussing interpretation and delivery with other members of the company and the director.
Performing for a live audience.
Performing in a theatre “on location”.
Audio as well as visual performance.
Rehearse/polish performances in your own time.
Managing the day-to-day running of the theatre, including “front of house” duties.
Students will need to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment and also be able to attend rehearsals and performances, some of which will be during the evening and/or occasional weekends.

Assessment is on-going throughout the course and requires students to complete projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. Assessment activities that students may undertake include; participating in practical workshops, rehearsals, performances, coursework, research, keeping journals, writing essays, giving presentations, discussing and evaluating work.

The majority of students will use the one-year Level 2 Performing Arts course at Paston as a foundation for higher level study. The most likely progression route is to Level 3 Performing Arts, or Level 3 Dance, Musical Theatre, Acting, Music or Production Arts at our Norwich camous.
