Paston students receive university offers from prestigious institutions

20th June 2019

We’re delighted that, once again, several Paston College students have received offers from prestigious universities across the country. We spoke to three students who have received university offers from Cambridge, Sheffield, and Oxford.

Emily Mary Gibson

Emily is currently studying History, French, and English Literature and has received an offer to study Modern & Medieval Languages at Newnham College, Cambridge

“ applied to Cambridge because I know I’d regret it if I didn’t. I chose Modern and Medieval Languages as the course seemed interesting and allowed me to continue studying elements of my current A Levels that I particularly enjoy, such as literature, history, and culture.

The application process was interesting, and I didn’t find it too intimidating. The interview consisted of a conversation with the subject leader, who is an expert in their field. This was a great opportunity to talk to someone knowledgeable about a subject I’m interested in.

I’m looking forward to getting involved in the theatre at Cambridge. Newnham College is an all female college and has fantastic historical archives which I cannot wait to explore.

I’ve had a great time at Paston College. The teachers have been amazing and supportive. I’ve enjoyed working with the Far East Theatre Company here.

Katy Fleming

Katy is currently studying Biology, Chemistry, and English Literature, she has received an offer to study Medicine at Sheffield University.

I’ve always had an interest in medicine, as well as seeing it in action with family illness. I really want to do something that helps people.

I visited the Sheffield University campus on an open day, and found it to be friendly and warm. I liked the course, and thought Sheffield was a great city.

When I’ve completed my studies, I’m not sure what I want to specialise in, maybe surgery or A & E. I would like to be helping people at the frontline of medicine.

I was shocked when I found out I had three offers, as medicine is so competitive. I was very nervous about the application process, especially the admissions tests and interviews. However, the college alerted me to a council run support service, and this guided me through the process. The interviews and tests are not as scary as you’d think.

I’m looking forward to exploring Sheffield, trying out various societies, enjoying the nightlife – the full university experience!

I have really enjoyed my time at Paston College. The teachers are great and supportive, especially my form tutor – Tom. The teachers have put time and effort into helping me achieve.

Ben Mack

Ben is currently studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths and has received an offer to study Law at Oxford.

I chose Oxford because the university has a fantastic reputation.

I want to study law because I find it interesting. I had work experience where I observed a courtroom experience, which I really enjoyed. I attended a summer school at Oxford and attended some fascinating Law lectures.

The application process was a long one, with personal statements, admissions tests, and interviews. During the interview process, the university invited us to stay for a week, and arranged activities for us in Oxford. The interviews were not as scary as I’d thought, I enjoyed them.

I was very happy when I found I’d been accepted into Oxford, as it was a recognition of my hard work. However, it meant I had a lot of hard work ahead of me!

I look forward to life in an Oxford College. I want to get involved in sports, societies, and attend grand balls!

I have enjoyed my time at Paston. The teachers have been supportive, and I’ve made good friends here

A huge congratulations to Emily, Katy, and Ben. This is a recognition of your hard work and dedication, we cannot wait to see you progress!
