Getting to Paston
Transport to Paston is both convenient and affordable with North Walsham being well served by both bus routes and train services.
We believe that every young person should be able to study at a College, if they want to and it is right for them. We’re serious about transport and do all we can to make it easy to travel to study at the College.
The train station is just a short 5 minute walk from college and connects services from Norwich to Cromer, Sheringham and Runton on the coast.
Students are encouraged to take advantage of the Norfolk County Council (NCC) Post 16 Transport Scheme for transport by bus www.norfolk.gov.uk/post16transport and opportunities for reduced rail fares linked to Greater Anglia’s 16+ Scholar ticket https://public.greenrailtravel.co.uk/scholars.html Rail fares may be cheaper than the NCC subsidised rate, particularly from stations on the Norwich to Sheringham line. It is also worth checking directly with bus operators to see if there are any discounts that are more suitable to your needs.
Travel from the “core” area
The core route area includes, for example, East Runton, Cromer, Aylsham, Stalham, Wroxham/Hoveton, Hemsby, Rackheath, Coltishall and Horstead. Further information and details can be found on the County Council or college website. Travel from locations within this area is organised by Norfolk County Council and full details are available on their website. All buses stop near to the College making journeys convenient and comfortable. Again please check rates linked to Greater Anglia’s Scholar deals which might be more convenient.
A full annual payment for the Post 16 Transport Scheme is £540 for 2019/20, with options to pay in termly instalments (please see link above) to offer flexibility and spread the cost.
Travel from outside the “core” area
Travel from North Norwich, Acle, Yarmouth, Sheringham and Holt areas is currently organised through Norfolk County Council see this website https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/education-and-learning/school-and-college-transport/travel-options-by-college-or-sixth-form/north-walsham-paston-sixth-form-college
Travel to Paston from Norwich and beyond is easy with Greater Anglia’s 16+ Scholar’s tickets. As an example the current price (August 2018) for a 16+ ticket from Norwich to North Walsham is £716 per year, from Salhouse £498.10 a year and Sheringham £401.10 per year. Scholar’s tickets are available for travel from a wider area, if you contact Greater Anglia they can advise on the cheapest option at the time.
Students from households with earnings of £24,000 or less can apply to the 16-19 bursary, and may be awarded help towards the costs of travel – see the online bursary application here: https://paston.ac.uk/support-and-advice/finance/
Please note all the information applies to 2019-20 only and will be reviewed for 2020-21 in line with NCC changes.
