What You Will Study

Core Maths is designed for students who want to continue developing their maths skills beyond GCSE but are not taking A Level Maths. This qualification focuses on real-world applications of maths, helping you become a confident problem-solver in both academic and everyday contexts, and supporting you in future study or employment. Core Maths can be studied in addition to three A Level subjects.

Core maths builds on GCSE maths with a sharper focus on problem-solving skills by considering and tackling maths in meaningful contexts. This includes financial applications of maths, as well as further statistical ideas that can support work in other subjects such as psychology, sciences, geography, sociology, and even history.

Over the two years of the course, you will study statistics and algebra, probability and estimation, data analysis and modelling, sequences and growth, financial planning and management, collaborative problem-solving approaches and techniques, and using technology and spreadsheets.

The content of the course has been specifically selected to support the A Level subjects you can study at Paston College. Students currently studying Core Maths have found it gives them confidence to better understand the mathematical requirements for their A Level courses.

Core Maths has received wide endorsement and recognition from employers such as Nestlé, Barclays, CrossRail, McDonalds, the British Chambers of Commerce, and many others.
