What You Will Study

Through our A Level Maths programme you will acquire skills that are in high demand from employers and universities. You will develop skills such as team working, resilience, effective communication of complex ideas and the ability to use your own initiative.

If you achieve good grades in maths and enjoy the subject at school, then A Level Maths could be for you. You will cover pure maths including algebra, functions, graphs, coordinate geometry, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms, calculus, numerical methods and vectors. You will also cover statistics looking at statistical sampling, data presentation and interpretation, probability and statistical hypothesis testing, as well as mechanics focussing on models and quantities, kinematics in one and two dimensions, projectiles, forces, Newton’s laws of motion and rigid bodies.

You will have the opportunity to attend trips to inspire you and to enhance your passion for the subject. The Maths Inspiration trip to Cambridge allows you to see the wider applications of the subject. We also attend a mathematical symposium in Norwich where you get the opportunity to be inspired by outstanding external speakers.

A Level Maths will teach you to understand the world around you through applying mathematics to real life situations. Throughout this course, you will study topics on a deeper level and will have the opportunity to discover areas that will be new to you. You will also learn to think clearly and logically, and to persevere when you cannot immediately see the solution to a problem.

If you achieve good grades in GCSE Maths, you should consider taking mathematics further. Some students may be required to take on a bridging course on algebra prior to be accepted on the course.
