What You Will Study

Our T Level in Education and Childcare (Early Years Educator) is perfect for those who have a clear aspiration to work with children. It will provide you with the perfect start to your journey into the education, early years and childcare sector, giving you the opportunity to work alongside local nurseries and primary schools to develop your understanding of children’s care needs, learning opportunities and developmental progression.

You will cover the core knowledge, understanding and skills relevant in education and early years, such as behaviour, child development, equality and diversity, parents, families and carers, and safeguarding. In addition, you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work in an early years setting, such as supporting and promoting children’s play, development and early education, developing relationships with children to facilitate their development, planning and providing and reviewing care, play and educational opportunities.

You will have access to a beautifully designed early years-style classroom, fully equipped with the same resources used in real-world settings. You will use a dedicated practice room where you will build essential skills for caring for babies and planning imaginative, child-centered activities that spark curiosity and support meaningful learning and development. It’s the perfect environment to bring theory to life and prepare for a rewarding career working with young children!

Additionally, you will complete 750 hours in an early years setting where you will gain hands-on experience. You will have the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge you learn in the classroom, to your practical placement experiences and in turn, reflect on how these experiences shape your understanding. You will also benefit from regular guest speakers and recruitment opportunities from universities, local organisations and charities to help you learn more about early years careers and plan your next steps.

Entry Requirements

You will need to achieve five GCSEs at grade 4 and above, including English language and maths. Completion of a DBS check is required for all students to allow you to work with children in an early years setting as part of your industry placement.

How You Will Be Assessed

In your first year, you will be assessed through an employer set project and core exam. In your second year you will complete synoptic assessments at college and on placement.
