What You Will Study

Information Technology (IT) impacts almost every part of our lives. This new Level 3 AAQ course has been designed to reflect the demands of IT in areas such as using IT systems and cyber-security threats, how to manage attacks, how to create websites and how to manage data through the development of a relational database solution.

Designed to fit into an A Level programme, this course is more practical and made up of four units, providing you with a firm grounding in information technology. The four units you will cover are information technology systems, cyber security and incident management, website development, and relational database development.

Our computing room features both high specification computers with large screens that are used for programming and software development, as well as older computers which you can take apart and set-up to form small networks. We also have a number of Single Board Computers and microcontrollers.

As an IT student, you will enhance your industry knowledge through visiting speakers sharing their experience and visit the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge. You will also hear from local employers such as Aviva, Norfolk Police and Farrows who run workshops and talks on computing-based career opportunities.

This course needs to be taken alongside two A Levels or one A Level and a second AAQ qualification.

Entry Requirements

You will need to achieve a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English language and maths.

How You Will Be Assessed

For the first two units you will be assessed by written exam, and the rest will be assignment based, like coursework.

Course Progression

On successful completion of the course, you could secure an Apprenticeship or explore degree-level courses in a digital field such as business information and technology, digital technology solutions, digital technology solutions, computer games technology, or computing forensics.

Where Your Course Can Take You

This course could be a stepping stone to areas of employment including roles such as software engineer, web developer, social media specialist, or software tester.
