What You Will Study

This course aims to provide you with a range of learning opportunities to develop the skills, qualities and attributes required for future employment.

You will be encouraged to embrace the prospect of work, identify your strengths and areas for development and to recognise what skills and qualities you have to offer to potential employers. Your lessons will build on key basic skills including English, maths and ICT and will provide you with a host of practical opportunities to engage with the local community and employers.

As part of your course, you will cover the following subjects:

  • Planning and preparation (target setting)
  • BTEC work skill units
  • Employability skills development
  • Work experience, working in a group or 1:1 with a job coach
  • Life skills and preparing for adult life
  • Sport, fitness and teamwork
    -Functional Skills or GCSE English and maths, at a level that is appropriate level for you

This course is ideal for you if you need some additional time to develop the skills and qualities required to become a successful employee and if you want to gain real-life experience of work that you can add to your CV.

You will attend college for three days a week for one year. The group size will be eight students.

Entry Requirements

This course is designed for students who are aged 16 to 25 and who have additional needs and/or disabilities. There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however most learners who access this course will have an EHCP.

How You Will Be Assessed

You will work towards achieving an Entry 3 or Level 1 BTEC work skills qualification. Your completed units for the qualification will be marked and assessed.

Your tutor will set you targets that will help you meet your EHCP outcomes, and your progress will be reviewed against these. You will also complete English and maths qualifications at a level which suits you.

Where Your Course Can Take You

You could progress onto another college course including a Work Matters supported internship or with our MINT supported employment agency.

Fees

If you have an EHCP the college will apply for funding for you to access this course.
