What You Will Study

Our Academic and Vocational Progression courses are designed for students who have finished Year 11 without the GCSE results they hoped for or need more GCSEs to progress onto the next level of study. This might be for either an academic pathway such as A Levels or a vocational pathway, such as T Levels or other Level 3 courses.

This is a one-year programme which allows you to choose from both GCSE and vocational options, depending on your intended destination or future career choices. You will need to choose four options from the list, with some options taking up two of these blocks.

  • GCSE English
  • GCSE Maths
  • GCSE Psychology
  • GCSE Citizenship
  • Higher Project Qualification (HPQ)
  • Creative Media Skills Diploma Level 2 (counts as two options)
  • Health and Social Care Level 2 (counts as two options)

On top of GCSE learning, your timetable will contain a lesson each week of personal development to help you develop strategies to overcome barriers and support you to progress. You will also complete a weekly session of private study to help you develop your independent study skills in preparation for Level 3 study. As part of your course you will be supported by an experienced and dedicated team to help you reach the next steps in your educational journey.

Entry Requirements

If you are taking GCSEs you will need to achieve a minimum of grade 3 or above in English language and maths. It would be beneficial if you have taken a range of GCSEs and have achieved mostly grade 3 or above.

How You Will Be Assessed

How you are assessed will depend upon the pathway you choose. The GCSE pathway will consist of mainly external examinations, whereby the vocational courses will consist of mainly coursework assignments and projects. Whatever pathway you choose, you will be fully supported with your studies and fully prepared for the assessment methods each course has.

Course Progression

Successful completion of this course should allow you to progress to the next level at college, for example A Levels, T Levels or other Level 3 career-focused courses at Paston College. You could also consider courses at City College Norwich or Easton College or move into an Apprenticeship or employment. On completion of further study, you could also consider studying a degree at university.

Where Your Course Can Take You

Some of the careers you might consider include becoming a financial analyst, project manager, brand manager, paramedic or counsellor, to name a few. You might also consider going into marketing, journalism or human resources.

Fees

If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 and over fees may be payable.
