What You Will Study

The media in its many forms dominates our world, influencing, shaping and giving us a voice to communicate with each other.

On this course you will explore them all, gaining knowledge and understanding of creative media productions, while developing practical skills to help you produce media content that stands out from the crowd. Over the two-year course, you will develop the underpinning knowledge and skills needed for a future career in the media sector. From filming and editing techniques to the construction of thought-provoking narratives, you will learn how to make products that engage your audience.

By investigating media industries and looking at the influences of technology on audiences, you will learn how to make stronger practical work. You will develop research skills through your investigations and study how to analyse and deconstruct media texts, with enhanced communication and planning skills that will allow your ideas to flourish.

Current units include film production, advertising, 3D environment design, media campaigns, factual production, music videos, digital photography and radio.

Entry Requirements

  • Four GCSEs at grade 4 or above
    or
  • Merit or Distinction in a relevant BTEC First Diploma Level 2 (or equivalent), as well as one GCSE subject at grade 4
  • Your grades must include a grade 4 in either English language or maths.

How You Will Be Assessed

You will work on a number of projects over two years, building up an impressive portfolio of media products. You will complete some work as an individual project and some as part of a larger production team, where you can specialise to develop your chosen skills further (e.g. an editor, cinematographer, visual effects, animator).

You will have the opportunity to work with local companies and organisations on a range of projects, producing professional work to meet the requirements of their brief. Recent organisations who we have collaborated with include BBC Voices, Saint Mary’s Works and Cromer Museum.

Course Progression

You will make a number of different media products that will provide you with a wide range of practical skills, giving you excellent knowledge and foundation for either Higher Education or as a stepping stone into the creative industry.

Many of our learners go on to university to study media related degrees at universities such as Greenwich, Bournemouth, Goldsmiths, University of East Anglia and Norwich University of the Arts.
