What You Will Study

This course provides a stimulating grounding in the study of crime and criminal behaviour, combining elements of psychology, law and sociology. You will have the opportunity to develop practical and academic skills through applied learning, with opportunities to learn from practitioners in the criminal justice sector.

You will study four units, starting with changing awareness of crime where you will explore different types of crime, how crime reporting affects people’s perceptions of crime, and how campaigns are used to elicit change. As part of your work for this unit you will plan a campaign for change.

During the second unit, on criminological theories, you will learn about the difference between crime and deviance, different perspectives within criminology (biological, sociological and psychological), and examine the causes of different types of crime, as well as the factors that drive policy change. The third unit is on crime scene to courtroom before finishing up with unit four which explores crime and punishment.

This qualification is designed primarily to support students progressing to university but also will allow you to gain the skills needed for the workplace. It offers exciting and interesting experiences that focus learning through applied methods. Your knowledge and understanding will be brought to life through a focus on authentic case studies.
