What You Will Study
Further Maths provides a great opportunity for enthusiastic mathematicians to broaden and deepen your subject knowledge. It’s ideal if you enjoy maths and are considering studying a degree in maths, physics, engineering, computer science or economics.
In the first year you will study towards completing an AS Level in Further Maths. There is then the opportunity to continue this subject for a second year to achieve a full A Level qualification. This A Level can be taken in conjunction with three other A levels (or equivalents).
Further Maths builds on the knowledge of A Level Maths and involves the further study of pure maths as well as optional units of statistics, mechanics or working with algorithms. You will study a variety of topics based around some overarching themes - core pure, mechanics, statistics and modelling with algorithms. You will also focus on mathematical argument, language and proof, problem solving and modelling as well as vectors and 3D space, algebra, series, calculus, sampling, networks and linear programming.
You will have the opportunity to attend trips to inspire you and enhance your passion for the subject. Our 'Maths Inspiration Trip' to Cambridge will allow you to see the wider applications of the subject. You will also have the chance to attend a mathematical symposium in Norwich.

Entry Requirements
- Five GCSEs at grade 5 or above.
- Grade 8 in GCSE maths.
- Further Maths A Level must be taken in combination with Maths A Level.
How You Will Be Assessed
You will be assessed through three or four written exam papers that focus on pure maths, statistics, mechanics or other topics depending on the programme of study.
Course Progression
If you achieve excellent grades in GCSE maths and are planning to apply for a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related degree, then this course is an ideal choice.
Where Your Course Can Take You
The skills you will learn, such as thinking clearly and logically, will be useful in a wide range of careers including science, engineering, computing and management.
