Teaching and learning continue to be ‘highly effective’

19th June 2019

A monitoring visit by Oftsed has found that teaching, learning and assessment ‘continue to be highly effective’ following the merger which brought together Paston College and City College Norwich.

The purpose of the monitoring visit, on 9-10 May 2019, was to investigate the progress leaders and managers have made in establishing shared systems, and in maintaining or improving the previously high standard of education on offer.

The report says that ‘significant progress’ has been made in relation to:

  • Establishing a shared vision, mission and values, and in creating a culture of high expectations;
  • Maintaining and developing a curriculum that meets the needs and aspirations of the communities it serves, and effectively implementing the curriculum;
  • Combining the good quality assurance arrangements of the precursor colleges into a coherent and effective model for the new college to ensure that the previous good standards of teaching are maintained.

In addition, the report says ‘reasonable progress’ has been made in ensuring that all learners and apprentices are helped to develop their knowledge and understanding of living and working in modern Britain.

Commenting on the report, Corrienne Peasgood, Principal, City College Norwich, said “We now have a firm foundation in place from which we can further develop our provision at Paston College. We look forward to carrying on this work so that our strong A Level offer continues to flourish, whilst introducing more vocational courses, apprenticeships and a number of specialist programmes for learners who have high needs.”
