"I acquired some amazing memories at college"

Bethany Adams shares how her creative Paston College journey has seen her progress to studying an Art at university.

Attending Paston College

I was attracted to Paston College as it had a great reputation. I knew several former students, and they all spoke very highly of their time at college.

I chose to study Fine Art, Sociology, English Literature at A Level.

Formative experiences

Attending college was a formative experience. The teaching within the Art department enabled me to realise my potential within the subject area, in turn confirming this as my chosen pathway into further education.

My teacher at the time, Matt Phelps, placed specific emphasis on critical writing, giving myself an advantage when approaching academic writing on both my undergraduate and postgraduate courses at university.

The broad nature of the Fine Art course provided me with the skillset to consider a range of subject matters to study at degree level, and since have pursued both illustration and design.

New horizons

My fondest memory of my time at Paston College was the enthusiasm of the teaching staff, all of whom instilled a similar passion for their respective subject areas within myself - something I maintain to this day.

Whilst at college I was given the opportunity to partake in many trips abroad to further our studies outside of the classroom. Amsterdam and Berlin are two of the places I visited with the Art department, I acquired some amazing memories and friendships.

Next steps

I'm currently studying an MA in Design at the University of Lincoln. I hope that this, in conjunction with my BA in Illustration, will heighten my chances of gaining full-time employment within the creative industries. In the meantime, I'd like to continue freelance creative work alongside my studies.
